It was a job well done against Roma on Thursday, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a chance to win his first piece of silverware when Manchester United faces Villarreal in the Europa League final later this month.
Manchester United qualified for the Europa League in convincing fashion, as Roma failed to produce the thrilling comeback needed to upset the applecart.
When Edinson Cavani scored just five minutes before halftime, it seemed that the tie was dead and buried.
However, a fast double from Roma around the hour mark provided some much-needed excitement, though the Serie A side was still looking for a miracle to turn the game on its head.
Despite Nicola Zalewski's debut goal, Cavani's second did manage to kill off any real hopes of a comeback from the hosts, as the aggregate score finished an amazing 8-5.
So, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares for the final in Gdansk later this month, here are three things he got right and one thing he didn't at the Stadio Olimpico.
Cavani's liberation
In the first half, Edinson Cavani scored his sixth goal in as many games before doubling his tally to put the game out of reach.
But it could have been many more as the Uruguayan movement wreaked havoc on the Roma defense, with the killer finish being the only thing Cavani lacked.
Solskjaer must extend this man's deal for another year - the club has been crying out for a natural goalscoring striker for far too long.
Putting Bruno in danger to complete the task
Given United's four-goal lead, several people were surprised to see Bruno Fernandes' name on the team sheet.
But he demonstrated how vital he is to the pulse of the United team with many deft touches that set the Red Devils on the offensive, one of which led to Fred finding Cavani to score.
As the game progressed, Roma put up a spirited battle as well, but when Fernandes found Cavani with a superb strike, the gamble had paid off handsomely.
De Gea is a summer nightmare.
Choosing between David de Gea and Dean Henderson as the club's No. 1 for the near future would be a nightmare this summer.
Despite conceding twice, United's long-term goalkeeper De Gea played a brilliant game to help propel them to the final, making a range of vital saves in his signature style.
Henderson hasn't done anything wrong in his seven Premier League starts when De Gea was on paternity leave, but will he dethrone De Gea as the number one?
This will be the summer tale to keep an eye on.
Alex Telles and Brandon Williams looked rusty at left and right back, demonstrating how little they had played recently.
Solskjaer has put his full confidence in Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and their positions do not appear to be in jeopardy until the season is over.
As the Roma comeback got underway, Telles and Williams were much too passive to avoid crosses from the wings.
And if they are to exert some kind of pressure on their opponents, they will both need to be drilled back to match sharpness.
