Erling Haaland 'couldn't remember' Pep Guardiola's tactical tweaks after Man City beat Arsenal

Erling Haaland has admitted he could not remember Pep Guardiola's half-time adjustments, which led to Manchester City beating Arsenal 3-1 in the top of the table clash.

Arsenal had largely been the better side during the first half, but the teams entered the break with the score at 1-1, with Bukayo Saka's penalty cancelling out Kevin De Bruyne's opener.

City improved in the second half with goals from Jack Grealish and Haaland taking the defending champions back to the top of the Premier League for the first time since November.

Haaland told Amazon Prime Video adjustments from Guardiola had led to the improvement in the second half, but was unable to remember them when asked about his manager's instructions.

The Premier League top scorer admitted the team had been street wise during the match to claim a crucial victory in the title race.

'Small adjustments at half time from Pep, in the end we have quality and we need to get it from evert single player, which is what we did today,' Haaland said.

'I honestly don't remember, I'm just so happy, I don't remember now.

'I think we have to play a bit more like this sometimes and that's exactly what we did today.

'I'm so proud I have to say, of every single guy.

'We can all agree that Arsenal have been the best team this season so to come to their place and play against them is not easy.

'But we played an amazing game and got three really important points, we're in it again.'

Guardiola gave greater insight on his adjustments post-match, after the Spaniard admitted to having had 'horrible tactics' in the first half.

'I decided something new and it was horrible,' Guardiola said.

'Second-half we were more like we are. We let them play in the build-up, our shape we let them play, Jorginho, Xhaka, Zinchenko, they find the runners outside.

'We adjust a bit, Ruben was good going more aggressive to Odegaard, we play more and Erling helped us a lot, he used his power to keep the ball. In first-half they had one more man in midfield, we struggled to control.'

The result underlined City's status as the team to beat in the title race.

The top two are now level on points, but Arsenal still have a game in hand on the defending champions.
